Lisbon: A Mouth Open to the Sea

My guide to Lisbon doesn’t start in Lisbon, but on the other side of the Tagus River, in Almada, the city where I was born. Almada is where I first saw exhibitions, dance performances and theatre from an early age. I could always go down to the banks of the river and take the short ten-minute boat ride to Cais do Sodré in Lisbon (which I recommend doing) and feel what it is to be between two places, two universes, floating in the middle of this enormous mass of water.
