This autumn issue marks the first anniversary of GLEAN. When we reinvented the magazine, which was founded in 2006 as HART, moved our offices to Brussels and started publishing on a quarterly basis in English, it was more than a whim. By choosing GLEAN as the magazine’s title — an ode to Agnès Varda’s film Les glaneurs et la glaneuse (‘The Gleaners and I’, 2000) — and the tagline ‘Art is slow attention’, we have opted for a deliberate approach to art writing.
